Artist's Comments

This is my first attempt at infrared. It was shot at a local park near my apartment.

I used a Hoya R72 filter.

I love how infrared shows off the living detail in plants so well.

Extremely nice, I really like how the sun is giving light in this photo. Plus the B&W color suits it.
:iconfreedomdawg:
Yeah, the sun is actually right behind those clouds, which normally would've washed the whole sky out. But with the infrared filter, it adds plenty of contrast to the sky. The b+w was an accident, I had it on the wrong setting, but I liked it better than the color, so I kept it.

You're born, you take shit. You get out in the world, you take more shit. You climb a little higher, you take less shit. Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere and you've forgotten what shit even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake son.

Simply superb!
I wished to have what to comment on it but...great work!

This is a nice attempt but I hope that you manage to get some infrared film one day to try it out. You seem to have the right landscape for its purpose. But the trees and grass should be white. Maybe try on a sunny day with clearer skies?

With infrared film, a red filter is used and that makes anything with chlorophyll seem brighter and skies darker, outlining clouds.

I wish there was an infrared option on digital cameras. True infrared is incredibly magical. Kodak has since discontinued their line of specialty films in both BW and Colour. Such a shame.

Yeah, it was my first attempt at infrared, and I managed to find the perfect subjects, but can't quite get the photos to where I like it. I have been trying to look at as much infrared photos as possible, and read everything too on taking them. I think my prolem might be my white balance. I have tried different things such as setting a custom white balance with a white sheet of paper and to setting it on a photo of just green grass. I have yet to get the results I have seen in other infrared photos, but when using a filter like this, it's hit or miss. I will keep trying different things, until it works. Thanks for your comments, though.

The thing between digital and film is that with digital, to get true infrared, you have to permanently alter the camera. I saw this in a recent dA journal but I can't remember where. Sorry. I wasn't ready to risk my camera for just one type of photography. I don't suggest you do it either.

I saw your other infrared stuff after I sent that last comment and it looks nice. I hope you manage to find a way to get a technique that works under all conditions but till then, I recommend you get a 35mm camera in a canon or a nikon and a red filter. It's an amazing process.

There are still places where you can purchase BW infrared film. I don't know if colour is available anywhere. [link] , the site that offers that will offer infrared film.

Yeah, there is a website that will permanently alter you camera for a price to take infrared pictues, enabling you to take them without a tripod. But, you have to have a spare camera and a spare $350. Not something I have either of. But, I will try to find an old Canon and take some infrared film pictures.

Peace.
